As you may or may not know I’m taking part in the Pru Ride 100 a week today!!
I have been training for it for 11 weeks, and only got a bike 12 weeks ago! I was feeling quite confident when I signed up for it as I used to cycle to work, a round trip of no more than 5 miles, and cycled to Paris with Richard, since then I’ve not got on a bike except the static kind at the Gym for a 5 minute warm up. I tried spin at the beginning of the year but hated every second of it…….what could be hard about a 100 mile bike ride?
I’ve been lucky enough to do some of my training with somelovely people including Richard, but on the long rides I’ve been solo which has been nothing but painful and boring….4/5 hours on a bike on your own is a long time. (Especially as a few have been with a slightly sore head)
That amount of time gives you time to think and its when I decided that I should make use of the fact Ive trained hard and raise money for Lucie.
Lucie is 7 years old tomorrow (24th July), she has come so far and is such an inspiration to me, she never complains, and just takes everything in her stride, including numerous hospital appointments, meetings about equipment, boring conversations in front of her that she’d rather be doing something else, but she puts up with it all and always has a smile on her face.
The first long ride I did I was thinking when I felt like I wanted to give up and everything hurt, how Lucie must feel like that often when things are hard for her and it made me carry on when all I wanted to do was turn back.
Lucie recently got a new wheelchair which fits her amazingly and she is very comfortable in, however the wheels are not suitable for any type of off roading, which means that at weekends and once a week when Lucie’s class attends forest school Lucie has to be squeezed into her old chair (which is yet to be collected by the NHS). She is uncomfortable but goes in it as she doesn’t want to miss out and we still want to go for family walks in the ‘Peter rabbit woods’
So in short I would like to raise money for an off road base for her current chair and I would be extremely grateful for any support that you wish to give.
Lucie has a trust set up for her for equipment as there will always things that she will need and specialist equipment is so expensive.
Thank you in advance for your support! I’ll let you know how I get on next Sunday and if anyone is around on the route then I’d be grateful for a cheer of support!
Love Katie & Lucie
